Canadian Campaign for Free Burma
DEMANDS FROM
Canadian campaign for Free Burma

Canadians, in support of the State Monks' Coalition in Burma, and in solidarity with protesters around the world, strongly demand the following from Burma's authorities:

  • Immediately end their brutal repression
  • Restore the media, telecommunications and the Internet.
  • Release all political prisoners, including Aung San Suu Kyi.
  • Immediately begin the reconciliation and democratization process in Burma.
We are aware that the People's Republic of China is Burma's largest investor, trading partner and arms supplier. China has signed on to a UN Security Council agreement to condemn the actions of the Burmese military regime. This is a first positive step, but it is without resolve. Therefore, we strongly urge the Chinese government take further steps to:
  • Instantly stop supplying weapons and military supplies to Burma
  • Acknowledge that brutal repression cannot be defined as an"internal matter?".
  • Exert maximum diplomatic pressure on the Burmese regime to stop the repression.
  • Support the reconciliation and democratization process in Burma.

We urge the Canadian government and Prime Minister Harper to openly condemn human rights abuses in Burma and act to increase pressure on both the Burmese regime and Chinese government regarding the demands stated above
